Extreme heat
June through September, surface temperature makes midday play unusable. Canopies, court orientation and lighter surface colour all buy back playable hours.
Hail
North Texas hail events are a real risk to membrane roofs and lighting. Specify accordingly and check your insurer's requirements before finalising the canopy.
Gulf Coast wind
Houston, Galveston and the coastal bend need the same high-wind structural approach as Florida. Inland sites do not, which saves meaningful cost.
Expansive clay soils
Much of central and north Texas sits on soils that move seasonally. The slab design is your geotechnical engineer's call and it is the biggest groundworks variable.
Permitting
Generally faster than California, but municipal lighting ordinances and HOA architectural review can add months. Start both in parallel with design.
